Design of the Hybrid Society Humans-Autonomous Systems: Architecture, Trustworthiness, Trust, EthiCs, and EXplainability (the case of Patient Care)

Brief description of the proposal

The TrustPACTX project aims to create a Hybrid Society (HS) where humans and autonomous systems (AS) collaborate to improve healthcare services. The system involves Personal Assistant Agents (PAs) acting as alter egos to help users like patients, doctors, caregivers, and healthcare professionals access essential services (e.g., emergency rooms, clinics). These PAs provide both practical assistance (e.g., therapy adjustments) and emotional support while ensuring ethical, high-quality, and sustainable care.

The project focuses on:

  1. Technological infrastructure for managing hybrid societies.
  2. Trustworthiness of AS, ensuring they operate consistently and ethically.
  3. Explainability of AS behaviors, so users trust their decisions.

Two case studies will test the prototype:

  1. At the Diabetes Clinic in Chieti, assisting diabetic patients with therapy and health monitoring.
  2. At the ESH Center for Hypertension in L’Aquila, monitoring blood pressure in adult outpatients.

Ultimately, this project aims to improve the management of chronic illnesses and support aging populations, with a focus on ethical and trusted human-AS collaboration.
